Hello! I'm
WAYNE FERNANDES
SENIOR MOTION DESIGNER

7 years with EC - how did your journey start and how has it been so far?
I joined EC in January 2019, and wow; what a ride it's been! From working on tons of exciting projects and campaigns to making some truly great friends along the way, it's been an amazing journey. One thing's for sure: none of this would be possible without an incredible team. That team energy is what keeps things fun, motivating, and pushing us to do our best every day.
You're known for being calm and composed - what's the secret behind that Zen mode?
Calm on the outside, chaos on the inside. I might look chill, but trust me, there's a lot going on under the hood. I've learned to keep it in… mostly. But that energy needs an exit, and football is where it escapes. Crunching tackles, full aggression, zero regrets. Way cheaper than therapy and way more fun.
Which project at EC/CYLNDR has been your absolute favourite (or the craziest) and why?
Lenovo Legion Comic Con
This was my first-ever offsite project, and the first time I had to edit on the spot!
The location: Bangalore.
The scene: Comic Con madness mixed with an intense PUBG contest. While the matches were happening, I was running around grabbing live footage and editing highlight reels for each round in real time. Talk about pressure! But honestly, it turned out to be one of the best experiences I've had. Seeing my animations and edits light up massive LED screens made all the stress totally worth it.
PS: I only got this opportunity because Sagar had an other commitment that week. So thanks a ton, Sagar!
At CYLNDR, everything is always “urgent hai yaar!” How do you handle tight timelines?
Tight timelines are basically part of the EC lifestyle. There's never really a “take your time, no rush” moment, deadlines are always knocking. But quality is non-negotiable, so cutting corners is simply not a thing. That means we often push ourselves, sometimes working late into the night, all in the name of delivering our very best work (and maybe fuelled by a little extra caffeine).
What's one favourite memory at EC that still makes you smile today?
Picking just one favorite memory is tough, but my birthday in July 2022 easily steals the spotlight. I walked into the office to see birthday wishes playing on the TV - not your average “happy birthday” slide, but fully designed, animated, and hilarious. 1 design on the TV had me as Batman. Just FYI… I hate Batman. Which, honestly, just proves they knew exactly what they were doing.
As if that wasn't enough, every single monitor had its wallpaper switched to my face with a birthday wish (humbling, truly). And then came the cake - my face morphed onto Harry Potter, flying on a broomstick. Iconic. Easily the best birthday I've had at EC.
What, in your opinion, sets EC apart from other digital agencies?
EC isn't your average agency, and it shows. From digital and tech to a full-blown production team complete with CGI, VFX, and an entire studio setup, we've got it all under one roof. It's this all-in-one magic that truly sets EC apart from the rest.
When you're not working, how do you unwind / recharge, what does a perfect off-day look like?
I've been playing football since I was a kid, and honestly, wherever we went - friends, family, picnic, holiday, football somehow showed up too. Somewhere between all those kicks and goals, it quietly became my therapy. Whether I'm playing on the field, glued to a match on TV, or battling it out on FIFA. But when it's time to truly recharge, nothing beats being at home. Either spending time with family or be it a quiet dinner out with Alisha or just lazing around at home doing absolutely nothing - is pure bliss.
Additionally, I have a soft spot for LEGO-and by soft spot, I mean a lifelong obsession. I've been building things since I was a toddler, and somehow my love for it has only grown stronger with time. These days, I eagerly wait for my brother to bring me new LEGO sets all the way from Australia. Whether it's Harry Potter, football, or even a cat (yes, that's Kit-Cat), I'm always ready to build!
Tell us about your friends / gang at EC, the people who make work feel lighter and fun.
Swapnil was my ultimate go-to buddy for pretty much everything but he's moved on to new adventures and a new job. We clicked instantly, probably because we joined EC just a week apart. While everyone else was sneaking off for smoke breaks, we were busy playing Table Tennis or FIFA.
Then there's Sagar, Shrinath, and Ashlesh - the trio who made EC feel like a playground rather than just a workplace. Even though I'm officially in the CYLNDR department now, I never say no to hanging out with the Digital side - it's always a blast. Ashlesh has also moved on from EC now, but the memories? Totally unforgettable.
Describe your Manager in two lines - the way you see them.
Sagar is the kind of person who's always hungry to learn new things and level up his skills. He also has a knack for pushing me to my limits (sometimes painfully!) to get the best out of me. He's super detail-oriented and seems to be on a constant upward climb… just don't ask him about the stock market - that's a different story!
What's the best part of working at CYLNDR and the not-so-best part (honesty allowed)?
Good stuff: Getting to play with big brands and a mix of projects is honestly a dream. Every project is like a little adventure, always learning something new! Plus, being on set for live shoots and seeing the whole process come together? Totally the best part.
Not-so-good stuff: Deadlines. Yep, I said it. We all know the chaos and trauma they bring.
Over the years, what's the biggest lesson or learning EC has given you - personally or professionally?
EC has taught me a ton - like how to actually manage my time without losing my mind and why quality always beats quantity. Honestly, all the little things I've picked up along the way have shaped me into the pro I am today… or at least made me feel like one.
If you could give one piece of advice to your Day-1 self at EC, what would it be?
Be more proactive, dive into projects early and let your creativity run wild! Not that I don't already try, but sometimes you just gotta believe in yourself and go totally crazy with ideas. Let's make the chaos look good.
